Just after 1200 noon Company 1 and Squad 1 were dispatched to Monroe Street for a derailed coal car leaking diesel. Deputy Chief 1 Cunningham confused of how a coal car could leak diesel fuel asked communications to get further information if possible. Communications quickly obtained further and relayed information that a trac-hoe and coal car had derailed near the Bedford Weaving Mill. Rescue 1 with four arrived to find both a rail car and trac-hoe overturned with one PI. Company 5 Forest transferred to the Bedford Firehouse while units waited for Norfolk Southern personnel to arrive on scene. Units operated on scene two hours before returning to service.
