Bedford Fire Department

10:46AM - Ladder 1 (w/6) was responding back to the station from an earlier call in the Forest area of the County when the crew noticed heavy black smoke in the downtown area. Ladder 1 responded to the area to investigate and located heavy fire showing from a two story commercial building at the same time Bedford Communications began to alert companies to the fire. Bedford Fire Department was first due along with Company 5 (Forest) Second Due and RIT, BCoFR Ambulance 14, Medic 14-6 and County 10 for a reported commercial structure fire in the 100blk of South Bridge Street in the Town of Bedford. Engine 1 (w4) arrived on scene at 119 South Bridge Street (Sister to Sister Café) at 10:48AM and caught the closest hydrant to supply the initial 2.5" attack line along with a ground monitor and three 1.75" attack lines used for exposure control and fire attack. Wagon 1 (w3) caught a second hydrant to supply Ladder 1's elevated master stream. Ladder 1 crew went to the roof and began cutting multiple trench cuts to prevent fire spread to other attached buildings. Rescue 1 (w/5) completed searches which proved negative. Tower 5 and Engine 51 (Forest) was set up on the rear of the building and assisted L1 crew with roof work and fire attack. The fire was contained to the building of origin with no reported injuries within 50 minutes.
The Bedford Fire Department would like to thank the following Departments for the assistance that was provided today. Forest Fire Department, Moneta Volunteer Fire Department which backfilled our station, Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Volunteer Fire Dept for covering the RIT, Bedford Electric Department, Bedford Public Works, Bedford Police Department, and the Bedford Town Managers Office. Most importantly we would like to send our appreciation to the Bedford Community for providing drinks and food to the first responders on scene.

The trucks look awesome! The music sucks!

I don't know why I curled my toes so much when I watch the truck go underneath that bridge
