The three companies that serve as dedicated Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT) in Bedford County include 1 (Bedford), 5 (Forest), and 13 (Stewartsville-Chamblissburg). Over forty firefighters from the three RIT companies took advantage of a rare training opportunity Monday evening as contractors begin to demo and remodel the old Winn Dixie store which will soon become the Blue Ridge Community Church's Bedford campus. Curious about RIT teams.. I know the basics of the team is to rescue firefighters if they get into trouble fighting a fire. My question why only 3 RIT teams/departments and is there need for more in the county?

With a 5 - 1 vote, Bedford Town Council approved the purchase of a 2020 Pierce Enforcer Pumper-Tanker last night that will replace the department's current 2000 HME/M&W Pumper Tanker. The new pumper-tanker will be equipped with a 525hp Detroit diesel motor, Allison 6 speed transmission, 2000 gallon water tank, 60 gallon foam tank, 1500 gpm pump, two Ebro side dumps and one 10" Newton rear dump. 0739hrs- Bedford Communications alerted Company 1, Medic 14-1, and County 10 to the intersection of East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike and Timber Ridge Road for a MVC with injury. Engine 1 arrived to find heavy damage to both vehicles with one entrapped.
